Hogwarts Castle

No New Posts Slytherin Dungeon

The common room is a dungeon-like room with greenish lamps and chairs. This dungeon extends partway under the lake, giving the light in the room a green tinge. The common room has lots of low backed black and dark green button-tufted, leather sofas; skulls; and dark wood cupboards. It has quite a grand atmosphere, but also quite a cold one. The password to the common room changes every fortnight, and it is posted on the noticeboard. It is decorated with tapestries featuring the adventures of famous Medieval Slytherins.

No New Posts Ravenclaw Tower

The Ravenclaw common room is one of the airiest rooms at Hogwarts. It is a wide, circular room with a midnight blue carpet, arched windows hung with blue and bronze silks, and a domed ceiling painted with stars. During the day, Ravenclaw students have an excellent view of the school grounds, including the lake, Forbidden Forest, Quidditch pitch, Herbology gardens and the surrounding mountains. The room is furnished with tables, chairs, and bookcases; and by the door leading up to the dormitories stands a tall statue of Rowena Ravenclaw made of white marble. According to Prefect Robert Hilliard, the sound of wind whistling around the windows of the tower is relaxing while going to sleep.

No New Posts Gryffindor Tower

The common room is a circular room where Gryffindor students can relax after a long day of studying. It is full of squashy armchairs, tables, and a bulletin board where school notices, ads, lost posters, etc. can be posted. A window looks out onto the grounds of the school, and a large fireplace dominates one wall. The walls are decorated with scarlet tapestries that depict witches and wizards, but also various animals. It is usually where celebration parties are held after Gryffindor Quidditch victories.

No New Posts Hufflepuff Basement

The Hufflepuff Basement serves as the Hufflepuff Common Room at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In general, it sports several motifs, such as circles, nature, copper and the colors yellow and black (all associated with the house). It also emphasizes comfort, said to be "the coziest common room of them all". It is at one floor below the ground and is very sheltered from the elements, generally allowing students to sleep easier than those in the towers. There is a lot of burnished copper about the place, and many plants, which either hang from the ceiling or sit on the windowsills.

No New Posts Whomping Willow

A Whomping Willow is located on grounds of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It was planted in 1971 to disguise the opening of a secret passage leading from the Hogwarts grounds to the Shrieking Shack, a building located in the village of Hogsmeade. A very violent plant, it has been known to attack anyone who disturbs its branches. Students are forbidden to go near it.

No New Posts Hagrid's Hut

Hagrid's Hut serves as the current Groundkeeper's house. It is a small wooden cabin located outside of Hogwarts Castle, on the edge of the Forbidden Forest. There is only one room inside, with hams and pheasants hanging from the ceiling. There is also a fireplace where, most of the time, a copper kettle is used to boil water. In the corner stands a massive bed with a patchwork quilt over it.

The Great Lake (alternatively known as the Black Lake) is a large body of water located to the south of the castle. It is about half a mile in diameter and the Hogwarts plumbing network drains into it. First years traditionally ride boats across it to reach Hogwarts. There are many strange creatures inside of it.

No New Posts Dangerous Vegetable Patch

The dangerous vegetables patch is an enclosed area of the Hogwarts Castle grounds, located near an entrance to the Northern Courtyard. It is used to hold dangerous plants. A Chinese Chomping Cabbage and a bunch of leaping toadstools are kept in here during the school year; sometimes they escape out into the grounds surrounding the enclosure. It is kept locked, however, a key is hidden nearby in such a way that a small animal like a rat or cat could easily find it.

No New Posts Clock Tower Courtyard

The Clock Tower Courtyard is a cloister on the base of the Clock Tower at Hogwarts Castle. This cloister seems to be one of the older parts of the castle and the ceiling and walls are dilapidated. It also leads to the Wooden Bridge and, as it is on a hill, is on the third floor. In the center of the courtyard is an antique fountain surrounded by statues of eagles. A pear tree also grows in this courtyard.

No New Posts Forbidden Forest

The Forbidden Forest, also known as Dark Forest, borders the edges of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry grounds. The forest is a very old place that holds many secrets and houses many creatures, some dark and Dangerous, others friendly. The trees in the forest are considered ancient, they are dense and rough looking from years of exposure to the elements. As the forest's name suggests, it is strictly off limits to students — except in the case of detention, or Care of Magical Creatures lessons that occasionally take place there. Of course, with the various dangerous creatures living in the Forest, few students would even want to venture into it. Black flowers are known to grow in the forest.

No New Posts Viaduct Courtyard

The Viaduct Courtyard (also known as the Entrance Courtyard) is a quadrangle in Hogwarts Castle. A covered stone cloister with an open colonnade runs around it, and two checkpoint towers flank its entryway via the Viaduct. There is a stone walkway leading from this courtyard into The Quad, and into the Viaduct Entrance. The courtyard is partially paved, in a cross pattern.

A popular hang-out spot for students of all Houses, this courtyard is where some students spend their spare time playing Gobstones.

No New Posts Wooden Bridge

The bridge appears derelict, and is constructed of wood beams which extend to the floor of the ravine it lays across. The roof of the Covered Bridge sags and appears tarred. The bridge blends in with the natural environment surrounding it.

The Covered Bridge begins at one end of the Clock Tower Courtyard, right at the base of the Clock Tower. At the end of the covered bridge there is a small stone gazebo with benches. Outside of it is the Sundial Garden.

This is hidden from Muggles in the form of an empty shopfront on Charing Cross Road. However, the magical eye can see that it is not indeed an empty shopfront, but a bustling pub and inn. Though it looks a little small and dingy from the outside, the inside has a public bar, private parlor rooms and rooms to rent. If you go out back and tap the bricks with your wand in a counter-clockwise arrangement, you will find yourself at a door that leads to both Diagon and Knockturn Alleys.
